DOUBLE PODIUM AT SILVERSTONE'S NEW WING!

Car 1 SEBASTIAN VETTEL, Finish Position: 2nd, Start Position: 2nd
"I had an excellent start and with hindsight I wouldn't have minded if there had been more rain because I really liked the conditions when we were racing on the intermediate tyres. We seemed to be in very good shape and I was pulling away. We probably waited a little bit too long to go onto the dry tyres, but it was right as there was no need for us to take a risk and we were in control. At the pit stop we had a problem - the car was already back on the floor, but then we had to lift it back up again. By then I had lost the lead and came out in third. I struggled to pass Lewis, I thought I could go much quicker, but I never really had the chance. Once I was very close, but it didn't work. We got him at the pit stop, but by then Fernando was already gone. It was a good result for us, but we had some problems and, if you’re not at your optimum, then there's always someone there to beat you. Ferrari was very quick all weekend and they deserved the victory today."

Car 2 MARK WEBBER, Finish Position: 3rd, Start Position: POLE POSITION
"It was a mixed race, it was very slippery at the start with the intermediate tyres, half the track was dry and half was wet and we had to wait for the slicks to come into play. Michael pitted first and we were waiting to hear what his pace was like. On my in-lap I had a massive moment in Becketts, so Fernando closed on me a bit, I went across the grass, so it was a bit scrappy there - then we had an interesting race after that. I felt strong at the start of each stint, but less so towards the end of the stints - both Seb and I were having trouble with the tyres at the end of the race. I tried to pass him, but not quite, and that was the race."

CHRISTIAN HORNER, Team Principal:
"After a very interesting race that initially started very well for us on the intermediate tyres, second and third is still a very strong result at this circuit, considering everything that has gone on this weekend. Unfortunately we had a rear jack failure on Sebastian’s second pit stop, which cost him a lot of time in the pits and dropped him behind Fernando. Having said that, Fernando was very fast today, but at least we would have had the track position going into the latter stint. Having run second early on, Mark had an issue at his second pit stop, but he managed to re-pass Hamilton with a brave move into Turn six. In the closing laps and with the two cars going wheel to wheel, from a team point of view it made absolute sense to consolidate a big haul of points today and not risk having both cars in the fence, which nearly happened to Lewis and Felipe on the last corner. From a team point of view it’s been a very strong day - we gained 33 points and both drivers are now first and second in the Drivers' Championship. On the exhaust issue, hopefully we have now achieved clarity on this and can draw a line under it going forward."

CYRIL DUMONT, Renault:
"All in all, it's a pretty good result today. I would have loved for us to have finished first and second, but for the Constructors’ Championship, it was a good team result. Unfortunately we had a rear jack failure, which cost Sebastian some time, but I think we are in a good position and we will be ready for the German GP in two weeks time."

2013 Infiniti JX teaser - Click above to enlarge

Infiniti has released an image of the upcoming JX crossover, and the newest family member is posing for the camera like an awkward teen on Facebook. Still, the sweeping family lines are clearly visible, as is an aggressive headlight treatment and a muscular front fender that reminds of company's EX and FX softroader lines.

The seven-passenger Infiniti JX will make its world debut at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance next month. A production version of the 2013 JX will arrive at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. After that, the JX will roll onto dealer lots by the spring of 2012.

Infiniti Reaches Next Generation Of Luxury Automotive Buyers With Its Inspired Performance

Infiniti today released new spots reinforcing the luxury automaker as the opposite of the status quo. The series of ads, the first of which includes a 60-second "brand anthem", emphasizes Infiniti's distinctive designs, more powerful engines and industry-changing technologies.

Kuni Westside Infiniti is also challenging the status quo by distributing the 60-second spot first to our blog, Facebook fans, and Twitter followers before it launches on broadcast television July 12 during the National Major League Baseball All-Star game on Fox.

"When it comes to automotive luxury, there's lots of vanilla out there, cars that can literally lull a buyer into boredom," said Infiniti Americas Vice President Ben Poore. "Infiniti's definition of luxury is different. We believe cars should have daring designs, be filled with innovation, and most importantly connect you to the road, not insulate you from it. Our new brand spots demonstrate Infiniti doesn't take a conventional approach, we never have and never will."

The ad series feature the technologies that Infiniti brought to market, including the world's first Around View® Monitor (AVM), Blind Spot Intervention system and high-performance hybrid sedan.

After launch, the ad will air on ESPN and Golf Channel during the week of July 12 and during the 2011 British Open Golf Tournament July 14-17 in more than 46 markets. Infiniti will amplify the spot's coverage the week of July 18 on national cable and spot market TV, as well as a select network news presence.

Infiniti Etherea concept to spawn Audi A3 fighter

Infiniti executives must be watching 19 and Counting because the vehicle lineup is set to expand just like the Duggar family. The automaker is looking to brings its vehicle count up to 10 models by 2017, starting with the JX crossover and a Leaf-based all-electric vehicle, but those will quickly be followed by an Audi A3-fighting compact.

Slotting in below the Infiniti G, the newest upscale Nissan will be based on the Etherea concept that was shown off at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. There's no word on a timetable for the vehicle, but it'll certainly be here before 2017. The JX is scheduled to arrive in 2012, and the electric vehicle is earmarked for 2014. All three will help round out the Infiniti family, and fill a few voids in the automaker's lineup.

Inspired Performance with Sebastian Vettel

The World Champion and Infiniti Global Brand Ambassador looks ahead to Red Bull Racing's home race, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

I've always loved the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. This is one of the classic race tracks of the world, an amazing place with a lot of history. It's a circuit where every young driver, no matter what nationality, wants to race.

But, for me, there is also the fact that Silverstone is very close to the headquarters of Red Bull Racing. So that makes it a home Grand Prix for us and adds even more to the sense of occasion.

Believe me, the racing at Silverstone can be incredibly exciting. That's because one simple word describes this track - fast! It's very quick indeed. The section known as the Maggots/Becketts complex, a series of high-speed left and right curves, is super-quick and presents a big challenge. It's unbelievable. The corner combinations all round the 3.6-mile track are so much fun to drive, particularly if your car is working well. That really allows you to attack - and that's what we love doing.

Last year, I was able to take pole position, although things didn't work out quite so well in the race. I had a puncture on the first lap but we made a good recovery and I had a nice fight while climbing back through the field.

It gave the guys from the factory something to cheer about. Many people think that Red Bull Racing is made up mainly of the team members you see in the pits doing tyre changes. Important as they are, those mechanics and engineers are just the tip of the iceberg.

There are 525 people in total in the team, most of them working behind the scenes to help us achieve the Inspired Performance we need to win races.

Having Round 9 of the Championship at Silverstone means that the guys from the factory can actually come to the race. It's nice for them because they work so hard all year long and yet they don't really get to see the drivers or experience the special atmosphere of the racing. Of course, they watch all of our races on the TV, but it is so much more impressive when you're actually there, at the track. And Silverstone is an amazing place for spectators.

The British fans are really knowledgeable and they are very fair. I have always loved the British sense of humour, particularly some of their TV programmes, which really make me laugh. I'd like to put a smile on everyone's face - including my own and all the guys on the team - on 10 July!

Infiniti and Red Bull Racing at the 2011 British Grand Prix: Preview

"The British Grand Prix is obviously one of the highlights of the calendar as Silverstone is an extremely prestigious venue. There has been a lot of work done there in the past year including the new pit complex which looks great. As proved in previous seasons, the characteristics of the circuit have suited us well. The test will remain if it's the same this time around. I'm looking to get a top result for everyone down the road at the base in Milton Keynes."
MARK

"Silverstone is one of my favourite tracks and not just because it's 30km from our factory in Milton Keynes. The fans in Britain are special. They support their own people of course, but they really know so much about our sport and are really fair when it's about acknowledging performance and achievement. This year the start and finish have been moved, so let's see what effect that will have. The extreme corner combinations on the track make it a real pleasure for the drivers. There are fast corners and often we have to react to the tricky weather conditions. Copse, Maggots, Becketts and Chapel are four of the best corners in Formula One."

Senator Alexander, Nissan and Pew to Highlight Importance of Electric Vehicles in Clean Energy Economy

EVs called an effective way to achieve energy independence, create jobs and investment

U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.); former Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, senior adviser to The Pew Charitable Trusts; Phyllis Cuttino, Pew Clean Energy Program director; and Nissan leadership today at Nissan Americas headquarters discussed the role that electric vehicles (EVs) can play in growing the clean energy economy. In remarks at the Tennessee Electric Vehicle Summit, they were unanimous in acknowledging that EVs are key to attracting jobs and investment, achieving energy independence by reducing America's reliance on foreign oil, enhancing environmental sustainability and improving overall vehicle efficiency.

In March, the United States spent $39.3 billion on oil imports, the highest level in nearly three years, and net oil imports represented 65 percent of the U.S. trade deficit. These figures underscore the need for change to the nation's transportation system.

By 2030 plug-in electric and hybrid vehicles could make up 22 percent of U.S. auto sales and advanced batteries could represent a nearly $100 billion market. Nissan introduced the all-electric, zero-emission Nissan LEAF in December 2010. The LEAF is currently available in select regions of the nation, including Tennessee.

In May, Sen. Alexander, along with Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), introduced the "Promoting Electric Vehicles Act," which would accelerate the deployment of EVs in communities across the United States and assist companies in switching their vehicle fleets from gas to electric through two competitive grant programs. The legislation would also invest in the development of advanced batteries.

"If the United States pledges to making 25 percent of new vehicles electric by 2020 and deploying 10 million charging stations, it could help strengthen economic, national and environmental security far into the 21st century," Granholm said.

Scott Becker, senior vice president, administration and finance, Nissan North America, added, "Nissan wants to be part of the solution in addressing our nation's energy challenges, and is committed to leading the way in zero-emission mobility and supporting policies that will establish the clean energy economy. The Nissan LEAF and the batteries that power it will be manufactured in Tennessee starting next year."

Although the United States has made critical initial investments in EVs and charging infrastructure, it will face intense competition for production and installation of these technologies. China hopes to produce 500,000 EVs annually beginning this year and is investing $15 billion in EV research, purchase incentives and charging stations. South Korea has launched its Battery 2020 Project, which aims to invest $12 billion in new technologies to become the world leader in rechargeable battery production in 10 years.

The Tennessee Electric Vehicle Summit at Nissan Americas in Franklin brought together leaders from the government, the electric power industry and auto manufacturing to explore the future of EVs and the challenges that must be addressed to accelerate the clean energy economy.
