CPO COLIN DODGE SAYS NISSAN'S ONLY PROBLEM IS MAKING ENOUGH CARS

Nissan Chief Performance Officer (CPO) and Executive Vice President (EVP) Colin Dodge spoke with the Global Media Center on global sales, car production, Mexico and the BRIC markets.

Q1. Colin, among your many hats, you are also Nissan's Chief Performance Officer. Taking a global view now of Nissan operations and considering the events since March, where does Nissan stand right now?

CPO: At the end of August, we're 150,000 (cars) up on last year. However, we're still 3.7% below business plan (BP), so my understanding of the situation is we've got 80 (thousand) still to recover to get back to the original BP. I think everybody is on track to do that. So, six months after the tragedy that occurred in March, we're producing now the BP plus about 5%. And at the moment, it won't be exactly by model or by country, because life's not as simple as that, but we're making a recovery plan to get back to the original BP, and we have 80,000 to go.

In terms of the regions affected, we're 50 (thousand) down in the United States, 10 (thousand) in Europe, and 20 (thousand) in Japan. We're up in China against BP, but we've got 80,000 to catch back. So, if you're a manufacturing guy, you're making more cars now than we planned to, and in the market itself, my observation is we've recovered from the earthquake as a company, it seems like, about two months quicker than Toyota, and Honda is still not recovered.

I think a combination of the business continuity activities that EVP [Mitsuhiko] Yamashita and EVP [Hiroto] Saikawa took care of, and the action of the quake recovery committee, which was done under the chairmanship of COO [Toshiyuki] Shiga and 100 people in this building the day after the earthquake, seems to be best one. So, we're in pretty good condition relatively, but until we're back to BP, I personally won't be satisfied. I am forecasting intuitively, but unless there is a massive change in consumer sentiment in the next six to eight weeks, we'll get back to BP. We're doing pretty good and relatively very, very well, but for me "good" means "better than business plan", so until then I'll say we're doing "relatively well".

Q2. Certainly, there are some headwinds out there. Mr. Ghosn has been talking about the yen's strength for Japanese-based production, and in Europe there are some concerns about whether there will be contagion from the debt issues there. It's hard to put a number on it, but could these be factors or is Nissan insulated?

CPO: At the moment, you've only got one problem - making enough cars. We've got to stop watching CNN or reading the Internet about what may happen in three or four months time. I've got back orders for 30,000 cars in Mexico, 20,000 in Latin America. In Europe, even though they're working seven days a week with shifts, I've got orders going back for two months on Qashqai. Versa, which we've just launched in Mexico, is unbelievable - we've got 26.4% share in Mexico now.

The products that we have coming through and the consumer behavior, and what you see on CNN - there seems to be no relationship at the moment. I don't know if that's just Nissan, but I said to my people, "Will you stop watching CNN and get to the factories, make me more cars, and stop worrying." I've got one problem today - making enough cars to satisfy our customer orders.

The yen, of course, is unfortunate. However, we're doing our best to mitigate the effects of the yen. We're praying for the Japanese government to do something in terms of quantitative easing. If not, it's looking pretty dark, obviously, but I wouldn't be depressed for the next six to eight weeks. Let's make some cars, and sell the cars in the system.

Q3. You just visited Mexico to celebrate Nissan's 50-year anniversary there, and Nissan is holding top market share. Do you see Mexico not as only a market doing very well but a template for what Nissan wants to achieve elsewhere?

CPO: Mexico's performance at 26.4% is a bit unbelievable for many other countries. When the market was closed, we were there. We dominated the market, and the competition wasn't that fierce. We established a good brand and a loyal customer base, and now we're milking it. That was 50 years worth of investment to go to a new country.

I've been in manufacturing all my life, and I will particularly note the chassis-building in our plant in Mexico. I was extremely impressed - it's one of the best plants in the world, and they're very flexible. They're responding to customers, got the right products, and Mexico is a benchmark on many aspects of the business. Can you catch up on 50 years worth of customer base quickly? I doubt it, but it is somewhere everyone should go visit, because we are definitely No.1 by a big margin.

Q4. Looking at three of the four BRIC nations - Brazil, Russia and India, they come under your hats, while China is where you have a lot of experience. Nissan is pledged for expansion during the Power 88 plan. Starting with Russia, can you walk us through the markets?

CPO: In Russia we still have a small manufacturing activity and we make big cars locally, and the other manufacturers make the small cars in high volume locally and bring in their big cars from outside. AvtoVAZ is working from a profit point of view and a brand point of view, and is very good. We need in Russia just one thing - small car manufacturing capacity, which we're developing with Renault and VAZ.

It's quite a tricky country, and it's best to be with someone who knows Russia well, which VAZ does, and Renault does - they've been there a long time. So in Russia, we're pretty confident already that we could do 8% market share without any particular magical sort of effort. I think Nissan's brand is so strong - they like Nissan's quality and our products. The new Juke that we've just launched is on fire in Russia. I don't think 10% market share is beyond our ability in Power 88, since we've got local production, and if we "ruble-ize" the parts, we'll be fine.

In India, we've just started. I think we've made a very strong plant. We've broken lots of records in terms of production ramp up. Localization content, I think, is 92 or 93% already. We're localizing all the powertrains, including the "Five Cs", which we didn't do immediately in some countries, so I think India is on for a substantial presence.

In Brazil, we've just started. At the moment we make some cars in the Renault plant, but it's clear if we want to be a big part of Brazil, we need the capacity and we need local content, about 90%. That's all you have to do in a BRIC nation. If you look at all the companies that did well in BRICs, they had high local content, local manufacturing, local management well connected to the sales company, and the product planning.

We're very like this in China, and we're following exactly the same template in India, Russia and Brazil. I think we'll do well.

Q5. Finally, looking at the breadth of Power 88 , you have spoken about capacity right now. Is there any other facet of the plan that will be key in seeing the 8% levels achieved?

CPO: Yes, product is still the most important thing in our industry. You get that right and life's OK. You get that wrong and it's very hard work. I've seen the product plan, I've seen the cars - they're better than the last generation and not all carmakers are getting better from generation to generation, and there's some deterioration in some competition's product, which is encouraging.

Local content is still the key issue because you isolate yourself from currency-exchange rate. As soon as you do that, you just need good cars at the right cost, and you don't have to worry about the Brazilian currency to the whatever currency.

The team we have at the moment right across the world is the best team since I've been in Nissan. It seems very joined up, it seems to be doing the right things, and at long last trying to improve our brand and sales power, which is basically something we've had deficiencies in. So we're kind of doing all the right things, and if we can get the customer experience to be something that is a pleasure rather than hard work than that would finish us off in terms of doing all the right things.

We still don't in some countries have a nice experience when we sell a motor car to somebody. I think the work that EVP [Takao] Katagiri is doing in that area with the regions is probably the last brick, the last step of Nissan's improvement activities.

RED BULL SHINES IN SINGAPORE

Car 1 SEBASTIAN VETTEL, Finish Position: WINNER! Start Position: POLE POSITION
â??I am very, very pleased with the result today, the car was fantastic all the way through. When we needed to push, we could pull away quite easily, which helped us. When the safety car came out, it didn't really fit to our plan as we had a gap of about thirty seconds with thirty laps to go, but nevertheless I had a very good restart. I was a bit lucky that there were some back markers between me and Jenson and I was able to get back into the rhythm straight away. I pulled out a gap and I was quite happy. All in all it is a fantastic result. I really love this track and I love the challenge here â?? itâ??s one of the longest races of the season, but the car was fantastic and engine-wise everything was great. Renault again did a very good job, so we were in a comfortable position for most of the race, which is pretty handy around here because it's quite a challenge to put all the sectors together, not only in qualifying, but also in the race. I'm very pleased and for the Championship it looks like we have another chance at the next race.â??
Car 2 MARK WEBBER, Finish Position: 3rd, Start Position: 2nd
â??Unfortunately Iâ??ve found myself having to come back through the field too often this season. I can't make the starts I made last year at the moment. I need to work on those; we'll look at them and definitely improve. I have to keep working harder because itâ??s quite frustrating and it's quite risky to have to come back through and try to regain positions on the track, particularly when the DRS isn't working. In the end I probably lost a position today out of that, JB put a good last stint together so it would have been good battle with him, even if he did have track position. Seb deserved the victory today and overall, if you come here and you get a podium, itâ??s not too bad. Of course you'd love a win, that's what we all strive for, but this is a very challenging venue. The guys have done a great job all weekend, for me in particular - as itâ??s not the easiest track for me here. I want to thank all the guys - theyâ??ve done a great job for me all weekend and Renault also - we have had 100% reliability, so a great job.â??
CHRISTIAN HORNER, Team Principal:
â??It was a big performance today to win the Singapore GP. Itâ??s one of the stand-out venues of the calendar with a really unique atmosphere and it's probably the toughest and most demanding race for the car and the drivers physically, due to the hot and humid conditions. Sebastian was faultless today; he was truly dominant in the first half and in managing the race to the end; not taking any risks to record his ninth win of the season. Starting from the left-hand side of the grid, the dirty side, Mark lost out as others did on the run to the first corner, but thereafter he had a really good race with Fernando and we seemed to be lighter on the tyres than the Ferrari today. He managed to pass Fernando twice and then our strategy worked to the end of the race. On top of that I think we also had the fastest pit stop of the day, so a truly great team performance that puts Sebastian within one point of achieving his second World Championship. However, that said, it doesn't change our approach as we head to Japan.â??
CYRIL DUMONT, Renault:
â??Today it was simply a fantastic race with good driving from Sebastian. He was able to be quicker by almost a second to all his opponents. He pulled out a big gap and was incredible today. Looking to Mark, unfortunately the start was not that good, but he was able to overtake Fernando twice, so I think it was a solid driving from him. All in all it's a wonderful result for the team and I think it starts tasting good.â??

Singapore Grand Prix 2011: Qualifying

Car 1 SEBASTIAN VETTEL
Position: POLE POSITION
(3rd Practice - P3, 1:46.345)
“On the last run, I maybe tried a bit too much going into the really tricky chicane around Turn 10. I think I could have made it, but I decided to abort the lap, as it can be so easy to damage the car. I was happy with my first lap - I think the track ramped up a little bit by the end, so it was possible to go faster, but all in all it was a perfect session and I’m very happy, especially around here. It’s a very fun track and a big challenge. It’s difficult with so many corners and it’s a long lap to get everything together, but we kept our heads cool and did it today. It’s great we have both cars on the front row, but let’s see tomorrow, it’s a very, very long race.”
Car 2 MARK WEBBER
Position: 2nd
(3rd Practice - P1, 1:46.081)
“I’m pretty happy with that. It’s been a pretty testing venue for me in the past, particularly on Saturdays, although racing I normally go a bit better around here. Seb laid it down pretty hard and fast for all of us today - he’s very quick round here and he did a great job for the pole. It’s pretty rare he makes a mistake. He was very quick for the whole lap and to put it all together for all of us is very challenging here - it’s easy to make up a bit, but then lose it on the next straight. Overall I’m satisfied and given the curveballs that teams can face around here to have both cars up there is a great result for us.”
CHRISTIAN HORNER:
“A fantastic team performance. To secure an all front row is phenomenal and it’s our best qualifying performance in Singapore. It was a tricky qualifying session, navigating the traffic early on and needing to get clean laps. It came down to Q3 and Sebastian produced a phenomenal first lap which was good enough for pole. On the second run he made a small mistake at Turn 10 and aborted the lap to save the tyres, which puts him in great shape for tomorrow. Mark made a big step on the last run - it was a good effort from him at a track which he has not been totally comfortable at all weekend, so a great performance by him and a great effort by the team to have locked out the front row.”
(Renault) CYRIL DUMONT:
"It was difficult to do a better result than this today. I think from the beginning of the weekend Sebastian’s pace was pretty good and he did a really solid qualifying session. Mark did a great first sector, which allowed him to come back and lock out the front row, so it’s a good way to start tomorrow’s race. We will see tomorrow - many things can happen, there are lots of corners and the weather can change, so it can be quite difficult - but I’m happy with this start to the weekend.”

Imagine standing still while a car comes towards you at 100kph. Not many would dub that ‘fantastic’, but Chris Gent does, as here he remembers the first time.
THE FIRST TIME I… WORKED THE FRONT JACK AT A GRAND PRIX (CHRIS GENT)
The first race I was on the front jack was Australia 2008. Before joining Red Bull Racing I was at Super Aguri where I did right-front wheel on, but when I came here it was do that, or the front jack. I don’t know why, but I chose to do the jack. I did get practice with it at a test in Barcelona before the start of the season. That was actually quite relaxed, you’re able to get the rhythm of it at a test and I quite liked it. You could see the whole pit stop happening, the car coming towards you, the speed of it. It’s difficult to explain, but I really don’t mind that at all. At that first race in Melbourne, I don’t think I had any nerves. When the adrenaline is rushing, you just get on with it. You have no fear.
In those days you had to get the jack quite central as there were straights and things on wings that you had to miss or else you might have damaged it, but beyond that it was straightforward. You watch for the hands coming up and make sure the boys have done everything they need and you’re away. It did feel like there was a bit more responsibility involved. The danger is that you drop it too early when one of the wheels isn’t finished. Now we have to be more careful as we have quick release jacks, so if you release the car you can’t pick it back up straight away. In Australia, at that first race, it was slower than it is now. It’s a fantastic feeling. I’m not sure what it is exactly… everyone’s out to the side of you and you’re staring straight down the pitlane as the car comes towards you; you almost get this tunnel vision and it’s all you can see.

SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX 2011: PRACTICE 1 AND 2

SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX 2011: PRACTICE 1 AND 2

Car 1 SEBASTIAN VETTEL
1st Practice P2, 2nd Practice P1

"It's a demanding circuit, it's quite warm with the suit etc. and on top of that you have to focus - it's one of the toughest tracks for the mind here. I quite like it, but I'm sure no one's jumping out of the car looking better than when they got in. We worked on the set up of the car, but the baseline was not too bad. We still have to make a good step overnight. It looked pretty tight out there today, so we need to wait and see."

First Practice Session
Position: 2, Best Time: 1:49.005, Laps: 15,
Chassis No. 5

Second Practice Session
Position: 1, Best Time: 1:46.374, Laps: 33,
Chassis No. 5

Car 2 MARK WEBBER
1st Practice P3, 2nd Practice P5

"It wasn't too bad. I need to find a bit more pace, but there's a bit of low hanging fruit which we can grab tonight, which will be good for us. Seb's going alright, so I just need to find a bit more and get into it tomorrow. In Free Practice 1, I had a small incident. I thought Glock was letting me through, but he didn't know I was there, so when we got to the apex, our car's touched."

First Practice Session
Position: 3, Best Time: 1:50.066, Laps: 16,
Chassis No. 4

Second Practice Session
Position: 5, Best Time 1:47.265, Laps: 28,

INFINITI'S FIRST HYBRID PUTS "INSPIRED PERFORMANCE" INTO THE RECORD BOOKS

Infiniti's M Hybrid has sped into the record books as the world's fastest accelerating full hybrid. Driven by journalist Tim Pollard and overseen by Guinness World Records, the 360-horsepower gas/electric sedan covered the standing quarter mile in 13.9031 seconds (average of all runs).

The test car, a standard production model, set the record on August 23, 2011 at the UK's Santa Pod Raceway, home of the FIA European Drag Racing Championships. From a standing start, the Infiniti M Hybrid harnessed its combination of electric motor torque from 0 rpm and V6 power at high revs to impressive effect, the car passing the computerised timing equipment at the end of each run at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

In the hierarchy of fast cars, the time puts it on a par with performance heroes like the 1982 Lamborghini Countach1 and within a few tenths of some Porsches, Ferraris and Aston Martins.

The result is all the more remarkable because the Infiniti M Hybrid emits just 162g/km of CO2 and, on the combined cycle, sips fuel at the rate of 29 miles per gallon.

"The Infiniti M35h proves that hybrids can be fast as well as frugal," said Tim Pollard, associate editor of the UK's CAR Magazine. "At Santa Pod you could feel the instant torque of the electric motor away from standstill – the car just leapt off the line. I did try changing gears manually, but it was fastest left in automatic. That was when we achieved the fastest single run of 13.8960 seconds.

"But what impressed most was the Infiniti M's duality of purpose: it might be quick, but it's also comfy and very easy to drive. It felt like it could do these runs all week long."

The record run, in the presence of an adjudicator from Guinness World Records, was the idea of Infiniti Europe's Communications department to correspond with the start of sales of the innovative new hybrid. They had no trouble enticing Pollard into the driving seat. The point behind the exercise, which can be watched at www.carmagazine.co.uk, was to show that the Infiniti M Hybrid's 62 mph time of 5.5 seconds – itself the fastest time listed for a full hybrid – was just one facet of the car’s overall Inspired Performance. The standing quarter mile, an iconic acceleration test the world over, is a more demanding challenge than 0-62 mph and offers a more complete picture of a car's acceleration.

The Infiniti M Hybrid's result in the 13-second area puts the latest Infiniti among the performance aristocracy – a fact which may surprise when it is considered that the car is a 16-foot-long four-door five-seater with as much of an emphasis on luxury, comfort and equipment as driving pleasure.

With its famous curves – themselves the focus of Infiniti's new television campaign – providing the Infiniti M’s signature muscular stance, the M Hybrid is powered by a potent and high-revving gasoline V6 engine complemented by a 67-horsepower (50kW) electric motor, one of the most powerful in production. The first application of new-generation Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid technology, the total system power output of 360 net horsepower goes to the rear wheels in a two-clutch system that maximizes both performance and efficiency, while allowing the car to run in electric-only mode at speeds as high as 62 mph.

Guinness World Records (GWR) was at Santa Pod to witness the record attempt and ensure Infiniti's new benchmark for full hybrids takes its place among the record-breakers on the GWR website. The Infiniti M Hybrid's Inspired Performance is also in line to feature in the 2013 edition of the famous Guinness Book of Records.

RED BULL RACING AND RENAULT ANNOUNCE NEW AGREEMENT

Red Bull Racing and Renault Sport F1 are pleased to confirm the extension of their successful partnership for a further five years. The new fuel efficient 1.6L V6-turbo power unit to be introduced from 2014 will be incorporated in the framework of an enhanced collaboration.
Building upon the existing world-championship winning partnership, Renault Sport F1 will continue to supply V8 engines and KERS Motor Generator Units to Red Bull Racing for 2012 and 2013, with the new agreement repositioning the relationship between Red Bull Racing and Renault to a premium technical co-operation.

Within the new agreement, a technical joint venture will be setup, in which Red Bull Technology and Renault Sport F1 will collaborate to develop innovative technical solutions for the V6-based power unit that will be introduced from 2014. Red Bull Technology and Renault Sport F1 will contribute their respective know-how, experience and specialist personnel to the project to achieve a competitive and reliable power train to be used by Red Bull Racing and other customer teams.

Bernard Rey, President of Renault Sport F1, commented, "We are delighted that the Red Bull Racing- Renault partnership has been extended for a further five years, which will take us to a decade of collaboration. Red Bull Racing and Renault share the views that stability is a fundamental condition to perform at the top levels of competition. As well as being a unique opportunity to showcase the performance of the Renault engines at the highest possible level, it is also is a fantastic arena to develop the technology and expertise within the Renault-Nissan Alliance."

Jean-François Caubet, Managing Director of Renault Sport F1, added, "The V6 power units due to be introduced from 2014 represent a huge undertaking and to have the input, resources and vast in-house F1 car expertise of Red Bull Technology will help the team at Renault Sport F1 in Viry-Chtillon specify, design and develop a competitive unit from the start of the new regulations and optimize its structural integration into the chassis. Having this particular support will of course be to the advantage of our other team partners, who will indirectly benefit from the joint expertise of the Red
Bull Racing and Renault Sport F1."

Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing Team Principal, said: "We're obviously thrilled to announce this significantly enhanced agreement with the Renault-Nissan Alliance, who we have enjoyed a close working relationship with since 2007. Renault Sport F1 has always been very straight-forward to work with, which has been a contributing factor to the on-going success of the Red Bull Racing-Renault partnership. Together we have so far achieved 22 wins, 32 pole positions, 1130.5 World Championship points and two World Championships. As the relationship moves forward, we intend to build on this and look forward to working with the Renault-Nissan Alliance during future Formula One World Championship campaigns."

The Red Bull Racing-Renault collaboration started in 2007 and has since matured into one of the most successful chassis-engine partnerships. The crowning moment came in 2010 with the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships. At present Red Bull Racing-Renault leads the Constructors' Championship by 131 points, while reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel leads the Drivers' title race.

This is the second exclusive timepiece to be revealed by Infiniti, following the launch of the special edition BR03-92 Instrument Phantom model to commemorate last year's arrival of the Infiniti FX Limited Edition performance crossover.

The elegant watch has been designed to mark the continued and successful collaboration between Infiniti and Bell & Ross, two marques renowned for exceptional performance, modern luxury, technical perfection, and a unique ownership experience. Only 200 examples from the BR02-8 Infiniti Carbon Case Purple 8 Pro Dial series are available for purchase from any of the Infiniti Centre worldwide including the 45 outlets across Europe, at a recommended retail price (RRP) of €3,500 or $5,080.

Stylish yet subtle cues drawn from the partnership between Infiniti and Bell & Ross are clearly evident on this exclusive piece. The seconds pointer and eighth digit which sit on a matt black dial, sport a photo-luminescent finish in the same distinct purple colour employed by Infiniti across the globe. The number ‘eight’ is a symbol of luck in Asia, whilst also resembling the mathematical sign of infinity and the automaker’s badge when rotated on its side. As a reminder of just how special this watch is, the steel case back has been beautifully engraved with the Infiniti signature, discretely complementing the Bell & Ross insignia.

Andy Palmer, Infiniti’s Executive Vice President explains: “The Limited Edition BR02-8 Infiniti Carbon Case Purple 8 Pro Dial wristwatch is a true celebration of our continued association with Bell & Ross, for which we are very proud. The new timepiece effortlessly embodies the unique qualities of both brands to offer discerning customers a rare and highly sought-after addition to their collection.”

INFINITI AT THE FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: THE GROWTH STARTS HERE

Twenty two years since first taking on the USA, and just on three years since arriving in Europe, Infiniti, the luxury performance brand from Japan, attends its first Frankfurt Motor Show at the start of a new six-year growth plan that will see sales rise to take 10 per cent of global luxury market sectors by 2016.

"The Frankfurt Show is important for us because it gives us the opportunity to spell out how we are going to develop over the next six years," said Toru Saito, Corporate Vice President and leader of the Infiniti Business Unit. "We are very committed to growing our business and we will demonstrate this through the launch of many new Infiniti products and Infiniti Centres throughout Europe."

Infiniti highlights at the 64th Frankfurt International Motor Show include:
  • World debut of a high-performance concept car bearing the name of the person who helped develop it (more details soon)
  • German premiere of Infiniti ETHEREA Concept, the mould-breaking luxury compact car
  • The Infiniti-sponsored Red Bull Racing Formula One car, as driven by reigning World Champion and Infiniti Global Brand Ambassador, Sebastian Vettel
  • The world's fastest accelerating petrol/electric hybrid, the 162g/km Infiniti M35h, being shown just days after its successful pan-European launch
  • Examples from the six Infiniti ranges on sale in Germany, comprising coupés, sedans, convertibles and crossovers
  • Announcement of winners of the Infiniti Digital Art Competition
"We have never been in better shape to show the German public what we are made of," said Bernard Loire, Vice President Infiniti Europe and Middle East. "Infiniti has laid very solid foundations over the three years we have been in Europe, and now our partnerships are helping the brand become much better known."

In June this year, Nissan Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn announced that Infiniti's target is to take 10 per cent of global luxury market sectors by 2016. As well as an increase in the number of models, key European markets are in line for a boost in the number of Infiniti Centres, with Germany and the UK getting around 40 each.

The luxury performance brand from Japan faces its first-ever Frankfurt Motor Show on a high, buoyed by enthusiasm for its cars, its technology and its service, and with a profile that increases with each success for its Formula One partner, Red Bull Racing, and its Global Brand Ambassador, Sebastian Vettel.

The Infiniti stand is located in Hall 3.1, stand A17. The Infiniti press conference is being held at 14.15 on Tuesday 13 September, but will also be streamed live at www.infinitieurope.com

INFINITI'S FRANKFURT SHOW STARS IN DETAIL

Infiniti ETHEREA concept
The Frankfurt Show will be the German public's first chance to pass judgment on Infiniti's convention-defying compact luxury car concept. Feedback to ETHEREA in other parts of Europe has been overwhelmingly positive, but what will Germans make of it? Encapsulating everything that Infiniti stands for - including no-compromise hybrid power and maximum driving pleasure - in a car just 4.4m long, ETHEREA has a dynamic character and highly sculptural, near mono-volume form unlike anything currently in the class.

Infiniti M35h
On show at Frankfurt just days after going on sale across Europe, the M35h is Infiniti's newest car, first hybrid and simultaneously the brand's fastest and cleanest model. Infiniti's first sedan to take on the familiar German offerings, the hybrid version of the M offers a new sector benchmark in power and efficiency. It unleashes 364PS (268kW) from new-generation hybrid technology to take the brand's Inspired Performance to the highest level yet, while CO2 emissions are just 162g/km. The M35h, with a price premium only marginally above that of an equivalent diesel Infiniti M model, joins the M37 V6 petrol and M30d V6 diesel as part of a three-way choice in Europe unmatched in the class by any other manufacturer to date.

Infiniti G, EX and FX
The G37 Coupé, G37 Sedan and G37 Cabriolet, all with potent and charismatic V6 petrol engines, are shown in latest, updated form. Now available with refined V6 diesel power in addition to V6 petrol, the EX coupé-crossover continues to set the pace for compact sporting 4x4s even after other manufacturers rush to copy the its formula. The sports car among SUVs, the FX is one of the most popular Infinitis in Europe, the potent FX50S Premium being the brand's top seller in some markets. With three diesel or petrol engines, four grades, five-star equipment and safety including Lane Departure Prevention, the FX continues to go from strength to strength.

Infiniti Digital Art Competition
Digital technology is transforming traditional art forms and visitors to the Frankfurt Show will have the chance to see how at the Infiniti booth. The brand's worldwide search for digital art pioneers in areas such as music, holograms, 3-D mapping, interactive installations, and virtual reality comes to fruition at Frankfurt when the winning works will be displayed. For Infiniti, curating the Digital Art Competition is a research project designed to test the limits of creative possibility.

'VETTEL' BADGES FOR INFINITI'S ULTIMATE CROSSOVER

The perfect high-performance Infiniti Crossover - designed by, and built for, Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel - will make its debut in concept form at the 64th International Motor Show in Frankfurt on Tuesday 13 September. The Red Bull Racing driver and Infiniti Global Brand Ambassador will unveil "his" car at 14.15 hours.

The first-ever Vettel-badged road car, the FX Sebastian Vettel version is the lightest, fastest and most aerodynamic FX yet, reflecting the World Champion's desire for a 300km/h Crossover that he can drive on his home country's derestricted Autobahn.

Based on the already fast and sporting V8-powered FX50S Premium, the FX Sebastian Vettel version features changes to engine, suspension and body, with key aerodynamic enhancements implemented with input from Red Bull Racing. The one-off model also gains an interior personalized to Sebastian Vettel's taste, taking the brand hallmarks of exclusiveness and individuality to new heights.
