Infiniti Announces New Naming Strategy

  • Infiniti models from the 2014 model year to carry Q or QX prefix
  • New nomenclature symbolizes new brand direction and the commitment to Infiniti under the leadership of Johan de Nysschen
  • The use of Q & QX captures the inspiration within the next generation of Infiniti models, while relating back to Infiniti's roots of the Q45
  • New premium sports sedan to launch at the North American International Auto Show in January will be first Infiniti to carry new Q badge

HONG KONG - Marking another significant step in its plan to further expand its presence in the premium automotive sector, Infiniti today announced details of a new nomenclature strategy to be applied to its complete product range beginning with the 2014 model year. The first model to carry Infiniti's new Q badge will be the Q50, an all-new premium sports sedan to be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January 2013.

The premium automotive brand will see its model range simply prefixed either by Q – for sedans, coupes and convertibles, or QX, for crossover and SUV models. Each model will be further identified by a double digit representing hierarchy within the range.

This strategic change reflects Infiniti's desire for clarity and cohesiveness as it embarks on ambitious growth plans, including significant expansion of the Infiniti portfolio.

Commenting on the revised naming philosophy, Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti Motor Company Limited, said: "Over the past few months, we have talked at length with our retailers, our customers, and our business partners about our brand. The need for a new identity and direction to promote consumer familiarity with our model range as we expand the portfolio became evident. To achieve this, we clearly needed a simple and consistent nomenclature framework. After exhaustive research and evaluation, we concluded that 'Q' captured the inspiration within the next generation of Infiniti models, as well as emphasizing our performance credentials while harking back to our heritage with the Q45 – Infiniti's first iconic flagship product in 1989."

Infiniti's new nomenclature strategy will be implemented in logical stages within the existing product range, as 2014 model year variants are introduced. The brand's future plans include a range of next-generation Infiniti models that will carry Q and QX badging from the outset.

Red Bulls Dish Up Days Of Speed In Bologna

BOLOGNA, Italy – The area around Bologna in Italy area has a pretty rich racing history, what with motorcycle manufacturer Ducati hailing from the heart of the city and the cars of a certain scarlet-hued outfit emerging from up the Autostrada in Maranello, but not since the days when nearby Imola hosted grands prix have the people of Emilia-Romagna been treated to two full-on days of F1 action.

That will change this weekend, however, when Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso fire up the engines of a couple of cars at the Red Bull Speed Days in the city.

The event is being staged as part of the 37th Bologna Motor Show and from tomorrow until Sunday evening, motor racing fans will be treated to a riot of Red Bull motor racing machinery being put through its paces at the Bologna Fiere.

Top of the list, of course, are the F1 cars, and David Coulthard will be on hand to put the Red Bull Racing RB6 through its paces, while Daniel Ricciardo will give Toro Rosso’s home fans a treat by blasting around the course in this year’s STR7.

The Bologna bash will be just the latest stop on the two drivers’ hectic schedules. David will jet in tomorrow straight from the FIA Gala Prize-Giving tonight where, as MC of the ceremony, he will hand Sebastian his third consecutive F1 Drivers’ Championship trophy and present Christian Horner with our third Constructors’ trophy in a row. Daniel, meanwhile, will arrive fresh from driving the Red Bull Racing RB7 in a massive show car run in Buenos Aires, Argentina last weekend.

DC and Dan won’t be the only Red Bull athletes feeling the need for speed, however. Fans will also get to see recently-crowned nine-time WRC champion Sébastien Loeb give his Citroën DS3 WRC car a good pasting, while Drift king Aleksandr Grinchuk will demonstrate the art of driving sideways very fast in his Red Bull Nissan 350Z.

Double WRC champion and Dakar winner Carlos Sainz will also be in attendance, as will world champion stunt-rider Chris Pfeiffer. Fans will also be able to get up close and personal with a Team Phoenix Audi R8 Le Mans contender and the Red Bull NASCAR car.

Not content with all that? Then how about rounding it off with the world finals of the Red Bull Kart Fight. This is the culmination of a global selection process that stretched from Russia to the USA, from Japan to Portugal. Now, the 20 finalists will gather at the Speed Days event to battle for the Kart Fight world title.

Today’s announcement comes as the luxury brand undergoes a new era of inspiration, growing its market share with the strategic expansion of its business worldwide under the helm of new leadership, Infiniti’s president Johan de Nysschen.

In addition to the January 14 unveiling, de Nysschen will present his vision for the brand in a speech that outlines a new direction for Infiniti in the years to come.

Infiniti made a number of strategic changes in 2012, including relocating its global headquarters to a new state-of-the-art facility in Hong Kong. The move in May was followed by the appointment in July of de Nysschen as the brand’s new president.

Since then, Infiniti has recorded U.S. sales increases year-over-year of 20.6 percent through October, pointing to a strong finish for 2012 and an even stronger start to 2013.

Red Bull Racing: 2012 Formula One World Champions

- Fourth Team in History to Achieve Three Consecutive Titles Team Takes its Third World Title in Eight Years -

Car 1 SEBASTIAN VETTEL, Finish Position: 2nd, Start Position: 1st
“I’m very, very happy for the team to win a third Constructors’. It’s been a tough year so far and they have been pushing incredibly hard; they deserve to win, as we have been the best team. Obviously Mark and I were pushing throughout the year. It was a shame for Mark not to finish today. It was a very good race and we did everything we could, but unfortunately we ran into traffic at the wrong time and lost the gap to Lewis. He used his chance well, I tried to cover the inside but he had more speed down the straight. I respect the positions; Lewis beat us fair and square. We showed we had the pace today and now it’s full steam ahead to the next race.”

Car 2 MARK WEBBER, Finish Position: DNF, Start Position: 3rd
“A third Constructors’ for the team is an incredible achievement. Three years in a row is something that I think all of us would never have envisaged when we first started to be successful, so the results that we’ve had over the years is really astonishing. This Championship was probably the toughest one so far, for lots of different reasons and – it’s a cliché – but it’s been a real team effort. Looking to today, I had to stop with an alternator problem. We had low battery voltage for a few laps before and then I lost gearbox sync and KERS, something was happening on the battery side. It’s frustrating; as we had a reasonable start to the race and a good fight with Lewis. We had issues to manage, but even when I knew we had them we tried to keep going and get something out of it, but we had to stop.”

CHRISTIAN HORNER, Team Principal:
“It’s incredible for the whole team to have won a third consecutive World Championship. The Constructors’ is what we use to measure ourselves against our competitors and, for every member of the team, it’s how we gauge our performance. The Drivers’ obviously has the prestige and public following but within the team they carry equal importance. So, to have achieved a consecutive third World Championship, which only three other teams in the history of the sport have achieved, puts us into a very elite group and having done it in such a short space of time is testimony to all the members of the team. That’s all the hard work, the long hours and dedication from every department. It’s a very proud moment for every single member of the team and Red Bull.”

ADRIAN NEWEY, Chief Technical Officer:
“It’s been an amazing year. To achieve the hat trick is a tremendous tribute to the whole team. It shows we’ve managed to keep our standards up and keep consistency. The hard work, the dedication, the talent of the people back in Milton Keynes – that’s what this is all about. I hope they are celebrating and having a drink tonight. We are always thinking how we can improve the car and what we can do in the coming races. It’s been a difficult year and unfortunately my pre-season concerns proved to be right. Having developed the car around side exhaust technology for the last two years, losing that was a bigger step back for us than our competitors and it’s been quite a difficult evolution to get the car back to where we wanted. Getting a third title shows we’re not a flash in the pan; we’ve managed to stay at the top, to understand the car and maintain consistency which is not easy at all. The first title was amazing because when I left McLaren for Red Bull, it was a bit of a career gamble, I was joining with a dream of perhaps trying to win races in the future with the team that I’d been involved with more or less from the start. To actually fulfil that dream and to achieve three titles has been amazing. We can all have dreams, but to do it is something special. It’s not just me personally but it’s the whole team and this is a tribute to everyone within it.”

CYRIL DUMONT, Renault:
“Securing the Constructors’ Championship today is a massive achievement for the Red Bull Racing-Renault partnership. It’s our third title in six years, and the first time since 2004 that a team has won three consecutive titles. The run to the title wasn’t completely trouble-free today however, as we had an engine-related DNF on Mark’s car, but we are managing the situation with Red Bull as of course we still have a Drivers’ Championship to win so we will keep pushing for Brazil.”

Red Bull Wins in Korea

Team extends lead in Constructors’ and Seb moves ahead in Drivers’

Car 1 SEBASTIAN VETTEL, Finish Position: WINNER! Start Position: 2nd
“I think it was a perfect day for me and the team. It was important to get a good start. I was able to out-accelerate Mark and get side by side. I had the inside for Turn 3 and a good exit, which meant I could stay ahead for Turn 4. I was in the lead, but we have seen before that it doesn’t always stick. My one mistake today was a lock-up going in to Turn 3, but with the tires it was marginal for everyone. You couldn’t push so much and my front right didn’t look too happy from the inside many times. We were able to pull away in the first and second stint and hold it for the third. We will have to do our best to remain where we are now. We have to just keep it simple and do our job.”

Car 2 MARK WEBBER, Finish Position: 2nd, Start Position: 1st
“I had a bit too much clutch off the line, which was disappointing. I put up a fight on the back straight with Sebastian, as it wasn’t all over. I tried to make a move, but once I pulled out of his slipstream, both of us were on the same speed. After that I was going quite well in the first part of the race. I couldn’t use DRS, due to the yellow flags and after that it became a tire battle. The second stint wasn’t so good, as I went a bit slower to conserve the tires, but that made the degradation a bit worse. The last stint was the strongest, but it was too late by then. Congratulations to Sebastian on the win and it’s great for the team that we got a one two, especially for the Constructors’, but I have mixed emotions. It was a good result, but of course, I wanted to get the top result today.”

CHRISTIAN HORNER, Team Principal
“A phenomenal team result. It was our first one two of the season and a great performance. Both drivers executed excellent races. Sebastian made the better start and he and Mark ran side by side all the way down the straight to Turn 3, but gave each other just enough room. Thereafter it was a case of tire management and executing a good strategic race, which we did with both cars to seal our first one two of 2012. It’s been a very positive ten days and it’s important we continue to build on the momentum going into the final four races.”

CYRIL DUMONT, Renault
“A fantastic result today. We started first and second and finished in the same positions, but with the drivers the other way around. Seb took the lead in the Drivers’ Championship which is very good result from this race. We have had a good feeling from the last two races and I just really hope we keep this momentum going for remaining four.”

Red Bull Wins in Suzuka!

Car 1 SEBASTIAN VETTEL, Finish Position: WINNER! Start Position: 1st
"It's been a fantastic weekend. Yesterday's qualifying was perfect and today again, the balance of the car was amazing. We didn't change too much at the stops; it just seemed to work fantastically well. I'm very happy, the guys have been pushing very hard and even though we didn't have major upgrades here, it still seemed to come together and the balance was there – and that's what made the difference today. It's a shame for Alonso, it's not something you hope for and it could happen to us at the next race. We've seen this year there are a lot of up and downs and things change quickly - we have to keep our heads down and take it step by step."

Car 2 MARK WEBBER, Finish Position: 9th, Start Position: 2nd
"I haven't seen what happened at the start, but it's been confirmed that it was Grosjean who hit me. We're trying to fight for results each weekend and it doesn't help so, yeah, it's frustrating as a few of the big guys suffered out there today. We went onto a one-stop strategy from then on, but I kept pushing, I didn't give up and got something from it. To finish eight seconds off fifth, after the fact I was in reverse at one point - and also the safety car came in before I caught the back of the field - was something. I'll come back in Korea."

CHRISTIAN HORNER, Team Principal
"A great result for Sebastian; to win in such a dominant fashion really closes up the Championship. It was a textbook drive for Sebastian today; he really was in a class of his own. The frustration for the team is the incident with Mark and Grosjean in Turn 2, where Grosjean completely misjudged the corner and hit Mark taking him out of the race. Mark then had to come into the pits for a safety check, change tires and the nose and then, before he had a chance to join the back of the pack, the race re-started, so he was 20 seconds behind. His recovery from that far back thereafter was excellent and he drove very well. It's a shame we couldn't have got even more from today, but it's always fantastic to win in Suzuka."

CYRIL DUMONT, Renault
"An awesome result - it was the perfect result for Sebastian with pole position, fastest lap and the race win. Unfortunately for Mark it was more difficult, we had the pace to be first and second, but everything was over after Turn 2 for Mark. He made a very good fight back after that. It's great to be in both Championships for the final races."

Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel Takes to the Track Early in Japan for First Drive of the FX Vettel Edition

TOCHIGI, Japan - Formula One Double World Champion Sebastian Vettel's Japanese Grand Prix weekend started early this week, as he took to the track to drive his Infiniti FX Vettel Edition production car for the very first time.

Fresh from his inspired victory in Singapore, The Red Bull Racing star and Infiniti Brand Ambassador spent the day at Infiniti's global manufacturing plant in Tochigi to approve the first production models of the car he co-designed rolling off the production line. After a tour of the manufacturing process and a chance to meet the engineers and factory staff behind the car's development, it was then over to the Tochigi test track to put the special edition through its paces. He also test drove of a number of future Infiniti products currently being developed, giving valuable performance feedback to engineers and fellow test drivers.

A unique collaboration between Vettel and Infiniti's SVP and Chief Creative Officer, Shiro Nakamura, the Infiniti FX Vettel Edition features a 5.0-liter V8 420PS engine and F1-inspired technology including advanced aerodynamic devices and carbon fiber components. It is available from €120,000 (depending on country). Vettel drove the prototype concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year.

Commenting on the event, Sebastian Vettel said: "It was great to get a look behind the scenes at Infiniti, meet some of the people involved and of course drive the car. In F1, the first few laps testing a new car are when you find out if it's quick or not. It was the same today and I'm pleased to say the Infiniti team have done an outstanding job. It really delivers on the vision I had - it's very fast, and a car that driving enthusiasts are going to enjoy. It was also good to be involved in the testing of some future products and to work with the Infiniti engineers to develop the performance further."

Infiniti Registers Highest Emotional Attachment Among Car Brands!

Do you love your car? Like, really love your car? How about your iPhone? According to Forbes, a group called New Media Metrics has a way to quantify just how much you adore your devices, and how that emotional connection determines your purchasing behavior.

The metric is called Leveraging Emotional Attachment for Profit, or LEAP, and just like it sounds, it measures how much we love products. That affection will likely lead to purchase to fill that attachment. The LEAP index began in 2010, and for the first two year the iPod topped the list, only to be unseated by the iPhone this year. Tech is a key factor as these devices have become extensions of ourselves.

The top automaker on this list, and ranked third overall, is the Infiniti brand. Its high ranking speaks to the significance of technology in the LEAP index. While many automakers offer a wealth of in-car tech, for Infiniti, it's a defining characteristic. Features like the around-view monitor and real-time traffic and weather updates have become key selling points for the Japanese luxury brand.

Singapore Grand Prix: Seb Sparkles at the Night Race

Car 1 SEBASTIAN VETTEL, Finish Position: WINNER! Start Position: 3rd
"It's great to get the win today. I'd like to dedicate it to Professor Sid Watkins. It's thanks to all the work he did to bring safety advancements to the sport that we can race on circuits like this. Looking to the race, Lewis had to retire which is a shame for him. I know how it feels and have been in that position before. I think we could have had a tight battle. I felt very good on the harder tires and we had a lot of pace. I think it's very good to get this win here today. We know the next few races will be tough, but that's the challenge."

Car 2 MARK WEBBER, Finish Position: 11th, Start Position: 7th
(Mark finished 10th, but a drive-through penalty was given after the race for leaving the track and gaining an advantage)
"I wasn't too bad pace wise. The strategy was going all right, but the second safety car really hurt us and put us to the back of the queue. Around here, fighting and looking after your tires is a bit of a mess. It's a shame. Sebastian got some good points for the Team, so that's good and I'm just looking forward now to the next few races. I like Suzuka, so I'm looking forward to that."

CHRISTIAN HORNER, Team Principal
"A tremendous result for Sebastian and the Team to win in Singapore. It's a timely win for both Championships. It was unfortunate for Lewis to retire from the lead, we know how that feels and it's never a good feeling. Nonetheless Sebastian's had tremendous pace all weekend and it's a shame in some respects, as I'm sure they'd have had a great race over the remainder of the grand prix. With Mark, we elected to go onto a three-stop strategy and it was working reasonably well; there was the first safety car and, having just made a stop we knew we couldn't get to the end on those tires, so we made a gamble and stayed out. Then his strategy was destroyed with the second safety car, caused by the Schumacher and Vergne incident. We had to pit him from there to get him to the end of the race, which dropped him back. His recovery from there was strong."

CYRIL DUMONT, Renault
"It was a good way to recover after the last race result. We had the pace we expected today and it was good to convert the momentum that we had shown in the practice sessions. For Mark, it was a difficult race. Being in traffic is never easy here, but he did some good overtaking. For Sebastian – to win here you have to do the perfect race and Seb did it. Now we have to keep the momentum for the final six races."

2013 Infiniti M Sedan Receives 5-Star Overall NCAP Rating

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Infiniti today announced that the 2013 Infiniti M luxury sedan has been awarded a 5-Star overall safety rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under the agency's New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). The 5-Star Safety Ratings System is designed to provide consumers with information about the crash protection and rollover safety of new vehicles. Five stars is the highest possible rating. NHTSA is the only organization that rates rollover resistance.

"Infiniti's Inspired Performance encompasses the total design of our vehicles, including our goal to provide a secure, confidence-inspiring environment for driver and passengers. The NHTSA 5-Star NCAP rating is an important third-party validation of these efforts," said Infiniti Americas Vice President Ben Poore. "We're also proud of Infiniti's ongoing industry leadership in advanced safety technologies such as Blind Spot Intervention, Lane Departure Prevention, Forward Collision Warning and the new Backup Collision Intervention that was just introduced on the all-new Infiniti JX luxury crossover."

All 2013 Infiniti M models come equipped with standard Infiniti Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and occupant classification sensor, standard front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags, and standard roof-mounted curtain side impact supplemental air bags for front and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection.

The Infiniti M also includes standard 3-point seat belts with Automatic Locking Retractor and Emergency Locking Retractor (driver's seat only), front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, front seat Active Head Restraints with 4-way manual adjustments, along with Zone Body construction with front and rear crumple zones and LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tether for Children).

2013 Infiniti M Safety and Security Features
The 2013 Infiniti M is available with a number of innovative technologies, including Infiniti's Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) systems. The LDW and LDP systems use a small camera installed behind the windshield to detect lane markers in front of the vehicle, calculate its position relative to those lane markers and warn the driver of a potential unintended lane departure with a visual display and audible buzzer. If the driver does not return the vehicle back toward the center of the travel lane, the LDP system assists the driver with a gentle application of the brakes.

Also offered are Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Blind Spot Intervention® (BSI) systems, which are available as part of the Technology Package. BSW illuminates an indicator light if another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area. If the driver then uses the turn signal, the indicator flashes and an audible warning sounds. BSI is another world-first safety feature from Infiniti and takes blind spot technology to the next level. If the vehicle gets close to the lane marker and another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area, the indicator flashes, an audible warning sounds, and selective braking is applied to one side of the vehicle to help the driver bring the vehicle back to the center of the driving lane. BSI operates regardless of turn signal usage.  Other available safety features include Intelligent Brake Assist with Forward Collision Warning and Front Pre-Crash Seat Belts.

Infiniti also developed Snug Kids, an industry-first program geared specifically toward safety for children in child restraints. Infiniti safety engineers spent thousands of hours evaluating hundreds of child restraints by installing them in all the rear seats of current Infiniti vehicles.  The result is the Snug Kids Child Safety Seat Fit Guide, which helps parents confidently select a child restraint that fits their vehicle while also providing valuable tips on the proper fit of a child restraint. The Snug Kids Child Safety Seat Fit Guides for all Infiniti vehicles are available at InfinitiUSA.com.

The 2013 Infiniti M lineup includes the Infiniti M56 and M37 luxury sedans and Infiniti M Hybrid. Every 2013 Infiniti vehicle also comes with Infiniti Personal Assistant, a unique personal concierge service providing owners with 24-hour access to live assistants no matter where they are.

The New England Motor Press Association selected the 2012 Infiniti QX56 as the best-in-class premium SUV. It was the second year in a row the group chose QX for the award.

A brawny 5.6-liter V8 employs direct injection for both power and efficiency. SPA SPECTACULAR: Red Bull Racing extends lead in Constructors’

Car 1 SEBASTIAN VETTEL, Finish Position: 2nd, Start Position: 10th
"I'm happy with that today. Qualifying wasn't as we planned it to be yesterday, but today the car seemed to be back to as we know it. The start was poor; I think I was the only one not to gain positions through the first corners, so we had to fight our way back, which wasn't easy, but I enjoyed it a lot. The strategy worked perfectly for us and we had the pace, which was the best thing about today. The car worked well and we didn't struggle. Congratulations to Jenson and Mclaren on the win. We've got a lot of back to backs this season and I'm looking forward to Monza later this week. We had a great race there last year - it's always a great atmosphere and we'll be pushing hard."

Car 2 MARK WEBBER, Finish Position: 6th, Start Position: 12th
"The start was pretty wild, which can happen at La Source. We settled into a race, but it became obvious quite early on that it was difficult for us to overtake. Obviously Seb and I had a little battle, which was fine – but after that, it just wasn't possible to fight other people on the straight line, so that made it tough. We tried to under-cut some people and roll the dice... I had Petrov on the out lap, which is fair play to him as he's just doing his thing, but we lost time there. We had a bit of luck at the start, but after that we didn't get the most out of the situation – but it was good to finish six places higher than I started and get points."

CHRISTIAN HORNER, Team Principal:
"A great recovery - we had strong race pace. We didn't plan a one stop, but we managed to make it work well with Sebastian once we got around the half way mark. His overtaking was excellent and our guys even went wheel to wheel on occasion, which was good and fair. To go from tenth to second was a great recovery. With Mark, we were hoping for more but I think our selection of top gear was probably a bit short today and it penalised him a bit when he was overtaking at the top of the hill. But, nonetheless he's scored good points; I think in clear air he would have been very quick, but he was in traffic for most of the race. So overall, after a disappointing Saturday it was a positive Sunday."

CYRIL DUMONT, Renault:
"A great recovery - if someone had offered me this result yesterday, I would have signed for it immediately. The start was not so good, but the strategy worked well and the pace of the car was strong. I think the most important thing is that we scored some important points in both Championships. We extend the lead in the Constructors' and both drivers got closer to Alonso in the Drivers."

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Infiniti today reported U.S. sales of 11,155 units in August, an increase of 23.6 percent versus 9,024 units a year earlier. Year-to-date Infiniti sales are up 21.1 percent compared to the 63,702 units sold during the same period last year.

Infiniti sales highlights for the month include:

Inspired Performance Meets Zero Emissions at the Paris Motor Show

ROLLE, Switzerland - Representing a bold next stage in Infiniti's quest for performance luxury motoring in the most sustainable way possible, the Infiniti LE Concept is a true Infiniti with just one thing missing - a tailpipe. Making its European debut at the Paris Motor Show on September 27 in Hall 1, stand 224, the LE Concept will line up alongside the award-winning Infiniti sports car concept and M35h production hybrid in a powerful display of "no compromise" performance motoring.

"The Infiniti LE Concept is a 'production intent' concept and most of what you see will become a reality," said Bernard Loire, Vice President of Infiniti Europe, Middle East, India and Africa "It is too early to confirm exactly when and where it will go on sale, but we are heartened by recent moves to encourage electric cars, such as France raising the purchase incentive from €5000 to €7000 per car. It is fitting that the LE Concept should make its European debut in Paris."

"Infiniti believes the future of luxury lies in sustainable luxury and we intend to continue taking a leadership role to achieve it," added Loire.

INFINITI'S PARIS MOTOR SHOW STARS IN DETAIL

Infiniti LE Concept
Combining driving appeal with zero emissions in a dramatically-styled compact saloon body, the all-electric LE Concept is being shown in Paris with a pledge that a production version will be on sale in selected markets in around two years' time. The showroom model will not only share the LE Concept's advanced powertrain but also much of its design character - one that shouts "dynamic luxury" rather than "electric vehicle".  Also in line for production are its highly crafted cabin and user-friendly technology - including the possibility of a ground-breaking wireless recharging system.

An all-new design, the four-door saloon body combines dynamism and elegance with signature Infiniti design cues and the latest Infiniti design language. The proportions are typically well balanced, the high rear deck injecting a sensation of movement. Up front, there's the expected double-arch grille but here featuring a charging port hidden beneath the illuminated centre Infiniti emblem. The LED headlights and taillights echo the design direction of Infiniti's recent concepts, as do the crescent-cut rear pillar and strong shoulder line to express flowing movement. Front spoiler, rear diffuser and side aero fins - all glowing with integrated illumination - contribute to an impressive Cd (drag coefficient) of 0.25.

At around 4.7m long, the LE Concept is a similar size to the Infiniti G Saloon, supporting Infiniti's belief that zero emissions does not have to mean small. Nor does it mean plain: the cabin is that of a true luxury car, capitalizing on the silence of the electric drivetrain to provide a tranquil ride at all speeds. Next-generation instrumentation and connectivity are previewed by LE Concept, but being an Infiniti, hospitality - evidenced by its soft lighting, excellent visibility and welcoming openness - is just as important.

The LE Concept does not compromise either on roominess or comfort. The advanced packaging solution of placing the lithium-ion batteries under the floor not only provides a no-compromise approach to luggage and passenger room, but also contributes to the vehicle's low center of gravity, enhancing handling.

Staying true to the Infiniti creed of Inspired Performance, the LE Concept is designed to stimulate rather than sedate on the road. This is achieved by a high performance electric motor with 100kW (134PS), along with 325Nm (240lb ft) of torque instantly available. The target for the engineers was "impressive EV acceleration without sacrificing the range", expected to be around 160km. A sculpted shift knob controls the drive system, which offers several driving modes, while a center cluster shows information, such as a dynamic range calculator, in a mix of digital and analogue displays.

The battery system is a proven laminated 24 kWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) design with a ChaDeMo DC50kW quick charger that can deliver an 80% charge in 30 minutes. Other charging options being looked at include an innovative home-based Wireless Charging System. This uses a coil safely encased in the charging pad to charge the battery via inductive energy flow. The Intelligent Park Assist feature will automatically align the vehicle over the charging pad for optimum charging and the driver can walk away, with no cables to connect. The high-frequency, non-contact charging, controlled by the car's display or by smartphone, is safe for children and pets and can be installed easily in a home garage.

"A luxury car for a new generation of sustainable luxury buyers must not compromise on performance. Buyers want 'green,' but won't settle for any aspect of the driving experience being less than that of their current luxury vehicles," said Bernard Loire.

The LE Concept's zero emissions credentials and pure approach to luxury define a new class of compact premium electric vehicles that Infiniti intends to lead when a production version goes on sale, scheduled for 2014.

Infiniti Emerg-e concept
The Paris show will be the first public appearance of the Emerg-e concept since being nominated as one of the winners in the concept category of the Automotive Brand Contest, an important international design competition organized by the German Design Council.

The award reinforces the acclaim, which followed the car's premiere at the Geneva Motor Show earlier in the year and the dynamic debut of a fully-functioning prototype at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Infiniti Emerg-e is the ultimate expression of Infiniti's inspired performance. This 402bhp (300kW) mid-engine, twin motor, electric motors powered sports car is capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in just four seconds - and from zero to 130mph in a single, seamless 30-second burst. It signals an array of exciting new technologies that the brand will adopt in its quest to build dramatic and sustainable high performance cars. Infiniti Emerg-e also provides a fresh expression of Infiniti's design language applied to a potential high performance, mid-ship sports car for the first time.

Infiniti M35 Hybrid
Alongside the Emerg-e concept on the stand and summing up Infiniti's no-compromise approach in production form, the M35h is being shown in Paris in its latest, even cleaner guise with 159g/km of CO2 - while still able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 5.5 seconds, making it the world's fastest accelerating hybrid saloon, as recorded by Guinness World Records.

Infiniti FX Vettel Edition & RBR F1 car
Performance of a more traditional kind - courtesy of a 420PS 5.0-liter V8 - will be displayed in Paris thanks to a rare public sighting of probably the most exclusive crossover ever made, the Infiniti FX Vettel Edition, developed in association with Formula One Double World Champion Sebastian Vettel. Just 50 examples have been made available for Western Europe, costing from €120,000 (depending on country), with many already spoken for.

Fittingly the only other car with Sebastian's name on - his Infiniti-partnered Red Bull Racing F1 car - will also be on show on the Infiniti stand.

European-Model Infiniti G, EX and FX
Completing Infiniti's display in Paris will be the extravagantly well equipped Premium versions of the FX30d luxury SUV and EX30d crossover, both powered by Infiniti's highly efficient and torque-rich 3.0-litre diesel V6.

The Infiniti G range will be represented by the G37 Cabriolet, the two-door sports coupe with all features as standard, including a potent and musical V6 engine and electrically retractable hard-top for a seductive open-air driving experience.
